Women have been stripped of their power, their instincts and their essence in order to stigmatise her. Women have been marginalised and oppressed by society, she has been hunted and forced to fit into a certain ideal, behave in a certain way and obey authority. For women who do not conform to the dominant religious ideology and to a patriarchal dominated society, magic and witchcraft is a way to retrieve their power, their connection and instinct.
A re-interpreation of a Canarian legend of women in Anaga who would perform rites and give offerings to the spirits and goddesses of the land. They would sing, dance, tell stories under a dark moon and end by swimming naked in the blue sea. The female body, otherness, witchcraft, critical thinking and individual freedom has always scared the patriarchy, religious institutions and now capitalism. I wanted to embrace the wildness of being outside of the norm, outside of the margins of society and what has been considered acceptable, as well as creating a story close to my roots and home.
